Amicus would like to introduce the Haney Family

Lung Andencarcinoma has been increasing in recent years, whereas another form of non-small cell lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, has been decreasing. It is also the most common form of lung cancer found in women, and is often found in non-smokers. Kaylynn Haney is 31 years old, a wife, mother of two and despite having never been a smoker, is battling this disease. With your help, Amicus would like to help the Haney family. There is not a lot of awareness about her particular disease and therefore the financial aid available to help those that are fighting this kind of cancer is very limited. As we all know the rising cost of medical care can take a toll on a family who already has such a burden to bear. For every loan closed in the month of July (excluding visa credit cards) Amicus will donate $25 to their family. We are also holding a donation account in their name, so that people may donate as much as they would like. Please aid Amicus in doing what we can for a wonderful family!

Race 2 Place is a fun, scenic, out-and-back run along the shores of the Spokane River on the Centennial Trail in the Spokane Valley. We are one of the few events to offer a super “cool” short sleeve Tech shirt.

Race 2 Place is a key fundraiser to benefit Parker’s Place, a camp offered free of charge to families who have suffered a tragedy and was created in memory of Parker Brown. Learn more about the reason behind the run here.

Merchant Surcharging – Understanding Payment Card Changes

What is a Surcharge?

A payment card surcharge is a fee that a retailer adds to the cost of a purchase when a customer uses a payment card.

Changes to Surcharging Fees in the United States

Beginning January 27, 2013, merchants in the United States and U.S. Territories will be permitted to impose a surcharge on consumers when they use a credit card.

Historically Visa has not permitted retailer surcharging, but allowing surcharging was a key provision required by merchants to settle long-standing litigation brought by a class of retailers in 2005.

What This Means for Consumers

Consumers will pay an additional fee when they use their credit card at retailers that decide to surcharge.
Consumers should be aware there are limits to the amount merchants can surcharge. *
Retailers are permitted to apply a surcharge to only credit card purchases and cannot impose a surcharge for purchases made using a debit or prepaid card.
If retailers intend to impose a surcharge on credit card purchases, they are required to notify customers before customers make an actual purchase at the store entrance and at the point of sale – or in an online environment, on the first page that references credit card brands.
Retailers must disclose surcharge fees on every receipt – both in store and online. Carefully review receipts where checkout fees should appear.
Retailers Can Offer a Discount for Cash and Check Purchases

Retailers can encourage their customers to use other forms of payment, such as cash and checks, and can discount for PIN debit and cash and checks.

47th Annual Meeting

Credit Unions are owned and operated by their members. The annual meeting is the time when credit union members elect, from their membership, individuals to set the policies for the credit union. Adult members will have the opportunity to vote on two board positions. Children and adults have a chance to win prizes. The brief meeting will be held at Amicus on Tuesday, February 21 at 5:30pm. All members are invited to participate. Light refreshments will be served.
